For the Fall 2023 KAL with KnitWiz you'll have a choice of knitting either "The Cloisters Pullover" or "Shadow Play Cardigan", designed by myself (Catherine Zoller on Ravelry). Both are made using the Phrancko technique, invented by Frank Jernigan. It is a construction technique for knitting top-down, seamless sweaters with perfect bell-shaped set in sleeve caps. The result is a sweater which fits beautifully through the bodice.

The Cloisters Pullover

The Cloisters Pullover features an asymmetric ribbing which flows into lace inserts at the lower arm and below the waist. Arranmore Light, from the Fibre Co was chosen for it's softness (wool, silk and cashmere!) and lovely tweed texture. The banner image above shows Sarina's work in progress, while the photo below shows me wearing the finished sample.

Shadow Play Cardigan

The Knit-Along continues in late fall with the Shadow Play Cardigan. Intarsia is used for the motif in back, and four analogous colors combine to create subtle vertical striping. It is also possible to use just two or three colors, limiting the amount of intarsia if that's not your thing. The bodice is fitted while the body of the sweater flares in an A-line thanks to yoke-style increases in the stitch pattern. I'm currently making the first sample using the Fibre Co's Luma.

I'm also planning a pullover of the same design with Cumbria (also from the Fibre Co) during the Knit-Along, in a luscious red, copper and gold colorway. During one of our zoom meetings I'll show you how to convert your pattern (or any pattern!) from a cardigan to a pullover, and vice-versa, using the KnitWiz Design tools.

Join the fun!

The KAL kicks off on Monday, Sept. 11th at 4:00PM Eastern. In the first meeting we'll be saying hello to old friends and new, going over measurements and giving out prizes. This time around the two prizes are:

  1. Your choice: A sweater quantity of either Arranmore Light, Luma or Cumbria from the Fibre Co (determined by your measurements). You can conveniently make "The Cloisters" or "Shadow Play" from these yarns.
  2. A one year subscription (a $144.00 value) to KnitWiz.

Both test-knitters and KAL participants are eligible for these prizes, which will be given away at the first meeting. If you are the winner of the yarn we'll need your address.
